Stage doors are set to open on the 2012-2013 theatre and dance season at the Youth Performing Arts School.

During the season, YPAS will present a variety of shows, including:  Macbeth (Sept.-Oct.), Little Women: the Musical (Nov.-Dec.), a dance concert (Feb. 2013), a New Works Festival (March 2013), and Stage Door (April-May 2013).  All performances will take place at the Youth Performing Arts School, located at 1517 S. 2nd Street in the Old Louisville area.

Tickets for each show will range between $9 and $12 per person, depending on the show.  Tickets, when they become available, can be purchased at the YPAS website or at the door.

YPAS will begin its season with the Shakespearean tragedy Macbeth.  Ambition for the throne will lead a kingdom into chaos as murders and corruption occur.  Themes of masculinity, natural order, guilt, violence, and prophecy will be explored in the tragedy, which is based on the actual rise to power of James I of England.  Georgette Kleier will direct Macbeth, which will run from Sept. 28-Oct. 6.

The musical Little Women is set to follow in the fall.  Four sisters' stories of growing up during the Civil War while the patriarch is out serving as a chaplain for the Union army are shared.  The production is based on Louisa May Alcott's 1869 novel of the same name.  Katie Blackerby will direct the production, which runs from Nov. 30-Dec. 9.

At the end of the season, YPAS will present Stage Door.  Actresses face their dreams, ambitions, and constant rejection while living in a boarding house.  Terry Randall is here, trying to get her big break without her family's connections.  Unfortunately, those connections, as well as a proposition for a roommate, could bring Terry's own hopes down.  Gail Benedict will direct Stage Door, which runs from April 25-May 18.

Don't forget about the dance concert, which will feature YPAS students performing ballet, jazz, and modern dance.  The concert runs on Feb. 22, 23, and 24.  Finally, the New Works Festival will showcase new works on March 15 and 16.
