Bunbury Theatre will present an entertaining mixture of original works, twists on classic shows and more during its 2015-16 theater season.
During the season, Bunbury Theatre will present five shows: “The Two Musketeers,” “The New Mrs. Claus,” “Gone Astray,” “That Championship Season” and “Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill.” All performances are to go on at the Henry Clay Theatre, located on the third floor of the Henry Clay Building at 604 S. Third Street in Old Louisville.
Season tickets are available for purchase at the Bunbury Theatre website. Tickets range in price from $79-$98, depending on the type of tickets purchased.
Bunbury Theatre will open the season with “The Two Musketeers.” Former Actors Theatre artistic director Jon Jory created the play that is a self-aware version of the classic story with one less Musketeer. See the wackiness unfold Oct. 9-25.
Bunbury’s artistic director has, in the past, created audience and critically-acclaimed works for Bunbury, and this year Juergen K. Tossman will bring forth “The New Mrs. Claus.” The comedy focuses on Santa moving in with a younger, more attractive Mrs. Claus following the passing of his former significant other. This original work takes place Dec. 4-20.
Leading off the new year will be “Gone Astray.” Essentially a take on the prodigal son story, this play features a long-lost brother, conflicting family goals and a complicated romance - all while taking place in or near the Eastern Kentucky coalfields. The show runs Feb. 19-March 6.
Right after March Madness concludes, Bunbury Theatre will have its own sports story to tell with “That Championship Season” as four former teammates reunite with their terminally ill coach. Each will gain new insight into their old coach as well as themselves. The Pulitzer Prize-winning play will go on April 8-17.
At the end of Bunbury’s season, the company will bring forth “Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill.” The show is a tribute to Billie Holliday on what would have been her 100th birthday and showcases her music and life. The show will go on June 10-19.
