Desire, arsenic, and people having sordid lives. It's ust the beginning of what Louisville Repertory Company has in store for its 2010-2011 theatre season.
The 2010-2011 season will consist of four plays, including Arsenic and Old Lace (October-November), A Streetcar Named Desire (February), Sordid Lives (June 2011), and Rosencrantz and Gildenstein Are Dead (June 2011)
Auditions for the LRC's upcoming season will take place August 24 from 6 p.m.-8:30 p.m. in the Rudyard Kipling, located at 422 West Oak Street in Louisville. Prospective actors and actresses should prepare a headshot and resume. Also, while not required, preparing a one-minute monologue is recommended.
During the auditions, cold readings will take place, and sides will be available at the facility. The Rudyard Kipling bar and kitchen, meanwhile, will be open during this time. More information on the audition can be found on the LRC's Facebook page.
The Louisville Repertory Company season will open with performances of Arsenic and Old Lace. The production features two seemingly sweet elder ladies who take advantage of seemingly sweet elder gentlemen, giving them arsenic inside of elderberry wine. A man who thinks he's Teddy Roosevelt helps to bury the bodies. The Amy Lewis-directed production will run in October and November.
A Streetcar Named Desire will follow in February 2011. The show features Blanche, who is a nervous wreck after losing the family home and being put on leave from her teaching position. She goes to live with Stella and Stanley, wife and husband. Trouble arises as Blanche becomes less stable, financially and otherwise, and Stanley becomes more distrusting of her. Mike Brooks will direct the production.
Del Shores's Sordid Lives will follow in June. The play, which became a movie in 2000 as well as a short-lived TV series, features a Texas family attempting to come to grips with the passing of the family matriarch. The play also deals with gay and lesbian issues. Amy Lewis will direct Sordid Lives.
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead will end the Louisville Repertory Company's season. The Gil Reyes-directed production features the title characters, friends of Hamlet, who attempt to figure out why Hamlet is acting strangely. At the same time, the duo also look to find their purposes or meaning in life.
