Shakespeare and Urinetown. That combination could only come in the form of IUS's 2012-13 theatre season.
During the 2012-13 theatre season, IUS will present two shows: Urinetown (November), and Hamlet (March 2013). Both performances are to happen at the Robinson Theater, located inside the Ogle Center on the IUS campus. The campus is located at 4201 Grant Line Road in New Albany, IN.
Tickets for each show this season are $12 for adults, $6 for seniors, and $6 for students. Tickets, when they become available, can be purchased through the Ogle Center box office. More information can be found at the IUS theatre arts website.
IUS opens its season with the musical comedy Urinetown. After a 20-year drought, the residents of a desolate place have a severe water shortage. So much so that the government has banned private toilets. One must now wait in line for a pay toilet, controlled by a greedy corporation. Use the toilet or don't, and if one does not, that person gets arrested and sent to Urinetown. No one comes back from Urinetown.
Greg Kotis created the lyrics and book for Urinetown while Mark Hollman created the lyrics and music. The story focuses on themes of greed, corruption, power, and revenge. Urinetown will run from Nov. 8-18.
William Shakespeare's Hamlet will close out IUS's theatre season. The Shakespearean tragedy focuses on Prince Hamlet's desire to go after the killer of his father, who was the king. That killer may be Hamlet's uncle, Claudius. Meanwhile, Hamlet ever-increasing madness threatens to destroy the lives of Hamlet, Ophelia, and all others involved with the kingdom. Death and sword fighting is sure to occur. Hamlet will be performed at IUS from March 7-17.
