This year on Derby night most will be fading from the day’s festivities, however The Galt House continues to host one of the hottest parties in town.  Benefiting the Permanently Disabled Jockey Fund, this year’s goal is to raise $100,000 raising the bar from last year’s fiesta which netted about $60,000. Attendees included Derby winning jockey John Valazquez, winning trainer Graham Motion, and over 40 other star jockeys.  This year adds some extra pizzazz with Hall of Fame jockey Pat Day expected to be in attendance, with fellow Hall of Famers Jean Cruguet and Ron Turcotte, among droves of your favorites.

For the past 6 years, Permanently Disabled Jockey Fund has been providing support to injured jockeys and has dispersed over 3 million dollars in that time.  Very often, jockey injuries can be career ending and just today, at The Oaks, a jockey was thrown from his horse in a midday race.  More notably, most remember last year when Robby Albarado slid off his horse, on Wednesday of Derby week, and then was kicked by the horse.  He was lucky enough to only suffer a laceration over his eyebrow and on his forehead, as well as a broken nose, which rumor has it is just a bit worse that other scuffles Mr. Albarado has allegedly been in off the track.
