As a previous post described, I attended Abbey Road on the River this past Friday.  After all the hoopla about the event, I was surprised that it wasn't crowded at all.  I took my mom with me and we were both very pleasantly surprised by the sponsorship; Magic Hat Brewing Company from Burlington, VT. Being from the east coast, Magic Hat #9 is a staple in our fridge at all times.

I am disappointed to say that besides the beer and the roasted corn on the cob, there was nothing else to report about the event. Bands got up on stage, played Beatles music, and then they got off of stage. It was a chill time. We drank beer and sat on the lawn with a diverse crowd. There were your stereotypical, round-glasses wearing, patchouli-infused hippies, and there were families with teenagers. There weren't any lines and plenty of places to sit. There weren't as many booths with Beatles paraphernalia as I had assumed there would be, but then again I did go on Friday.

My favorite part besides the beer? People staying at the Galt House hung Beatles/Peace flags in their room windows for the concert goers to see. I thought it was a nice touch. I think of Hugh Hefner and the Derby when I think of the Galt House, but it was nice to see that the hotel welcomes free spirits as well. All in all, a mellow experience. Next year, I'll but on the Beatles greatest hits CD, pop open a Magic Hat #9, and chill in my own backyard...it would be basically the same thing, but without the ticket and paying for parking.
