Mike Birbiglia might be the funniest guy in America. That's a bold statement, and one that you'll have to come back next week to read my review of his upcoming show - My Girlfriend's Boyfriend - at the Brown Theatre (315 W. Broadway), to find out if I believe it to be true. This will be the first time I've ever really seen Mike Birbiglia perform aside from a few YouTube videos, but the hype surrounding him from people I know has me curious and ready. Apparently the local critics in my ear aren't the only ones who think this will be a great show, My Girlfriend's Boyfriend is getting rave reviews from the likes of The New York Times, Time Magazine, New York Magazine, and has been nominated for multiple awards.
According to his website Mike will be taking us on a journey of his romantic blunders and miscues as he struggles to find love. I honestly believe it will be a good show as much as we as humans find humor in other's failures (don't lie, you know you chuckle when you see someone trip). Be forewarned, when dealing with the topic of love and relationships, some mature content is sure to be brought up; so if you're overly sensitive to certain words or mental images, this might not be the show for you. It sounds right up my alley though since I am a fan of certain words and mental images.
