Here it is folks…I feel like we are approaching the event horizon.  In recent years, living in Louisville has felt like a slow steady swell of notoriety and respect, as websites and magazines around the country and the world have been turning their eye toward our city.

This weird little scene of music and art that we have cultivated is leaking, and the secret is getting out to the world at large.

And here is another article to prove the point.  Time.com (which is in affiliation with Time Magazine) ranked The River City as one of the Top 10 Music Scenes in America.  Louisville made it to #9 on the list, ranked higher than notorious music oriented cities like Chicago (#11), Kansas City (#12), Atlanta (#13), Philadelphia (#17), and Detroit (#23).

Obviously, the success of artists like My Morning Jacket, Houndmouth, and Sturgill Simpson doesn’t hurt – but our plethora of festivals, venues, music series, various music styles, and a highly supportive local fanbase that is what really sets our town apart and is at the heart of the city’s scene.

    About Brent Owen

Born and raised in Louisville, I have lived here most of my life (except during a short furlough, when I, lovelorn and naive, followed a girl to Baton Rouge). My roots are here, my family, my friends, and my life are all here. I work primarily as a free-lance writer for a few local and regional publications. I have also written two books (one a memoir, the other a novel) that barring some divine intervention, will probably never see the light of day. I find myself deeply ingrained in the local bar scene, or perhaps better said, I often indulge in the local drinking culture. I love music, movies, comedy, and really just about any other live performance art.
