    Bit to Do

Local author Beverly Detroy brings her new book, ‘Fox & Dad’, to Carmichael’s

I am here presented with a subject that feels somewhat like home base for me.  A subject that I feel I have earned a certain amount of life expertise.  I know know this.  Therefore, it is impossible for me to write cohesively about my experiences.  Not without a substantial amount of nervous energy and expectation.  I happen to be the daughter of one of those fancy “Attorney-at-Law” peeps – and, yes, we’ll be getting to that kind of business here, folks.  Brass name plates, pin stripes, shoe polish and high-backed leather chairs punctuated my childhood memories of being downtown.  Ever played My Little Pony in an empty row during a juried rape trial?  Yeah - been there, done that.  Old hat, yo.

So how do my formative years watching Papa write briefs tie into this here article?  Enough for me to fully appreciate Beverly Detroy’s honest portrayal of Legendary Louisville attorney, Frank E. Haddad Jr. and his relationship with bestie, Lawrence Detroy.  Slick lawyers aren’t always so slick underneath that double-breasted suit – some are actually human.  Join Detroy as she presents this down-to-earth dynamic with her new book, Fox & Dad, tomorrow night, September 14th, at Carmichael’s Bookstore.

Organized in a vignette-style collection of memories and incidents, Beverly Detroy’s Fox & Dad chronicles the remarkable friendship between the great attorney, Frank E. Haddad Jr. and the author’s husband, Lawrence Detroy – two men bound together by tremendous respect.  Detroy’s intimate retelling of the relationship between these two families has earned her both praise from reviewers and a renewed respect for the people who lived the stories.  Starting at 7pm tomorrow, Detroy will read selections from her collection and sign autographs at the Frankfort Avenue store.  Copies of Fox & Dad are available at both Carmichael’s locations in paperback for $16.95.

Intimidated or loathe of those white-collared ruffians of our justice system?  Not all hearts are made of loopholes and $$ (and super bad television commercials).  Louisville’s lawyers can go well beyond their sharp-tongued stereotype. Pick up a copy of Fox & Dad and see for yourself how human a suit and tie can be.

Carmichael’s Bookstore has two area locations: 1295 Bardstown Road and 2720 Frankfort Avenue.  For more information visit the event page or call the Frankfort Avenue store at (502) 896-6950.
