So. Apparently there is some big hullabaloo concerning the river, a bridge, drunken citizens and bad music all culminating in some brightly-colored – and crazy loud like…“thunder” they say – lights. Apparently. Apparently it’s tomorrow. And while I – as I’m sure continuing readers can guess by now – do not really understand the appeal of hours spent milling around on a blanket sipping on lukewarm contraband bud-light, I can appreciate the gravity of standing up to this massive scheduled merriment and proclaiming a loud love of local literateurs instead. Stop by Carmichael’s Bookstore tomorrow, Saturday, April 21st, at 4pm and give some of your energy and excitement to local author, Kirby Gann.
Currently working as Managing Editor for Louisville’s own independent publishing house, Sarabande Books, Kirby Gann is also a published writer and teacher of the good craft. Gann’s latest release, Ghosting, follows two additional novels, The Barbarian Parade and Our Napoleon in Rags, as well as the anthology A Fine Excess: Contemporary Literature at Play – a project co-edited with poet Kristen Herbert and a finalist in the ForeWord Magazine Book of the Year Award. Gann’s other written works of the shorter fiction breed have appeared in the likes of Witness, The Best of Witness, The Crescent Review, American Writing, The Louisville Review, The Southeast Review and The Southern Indiana Review. Gann’s repertoire has earned him several awards, including an Individual Artist Fellowship and two Professional Assistance Awards from the Kentucky Arts Council; he presently shares these lauded skills in the brief-residency MFA in Writing Program at Spalding University.
