So.  Apparently there is some big hullabaloo concerning the river, a bridge, drunken citizens and bad music all culminating in some brightly-colored – and crazy loud like…“thunder” they say – lights.  Apparently.  Apparently it’s tomorrow.  And while I – as I’m sure continuing readers can guess by now – do not really understand the appeal of hours spent milling around on a blanket sipping on lukewarm contraband bud-light, I can appreciate the gravity of standing up to this massive scheduled merriment and proclaiming a loud love of local literateurs instead.  Willing to sacrifice your golden scrap of the Great Lawn?  Stop by Carmichael’s Bookstore tomorrow, Saturday, April 21st, at 4pm and give some of your energy and excitement to local author, Kirby Gann.

Currently working as Managing Editor for Louisville’s own independent publishing house, Sarabande Books, Kirby Gann is also a published writer and teacher of the good craft.  Gann’s latest release, Ghosting, follows two additional novels, The Barbarian Parade and Our Napoleon in Rags, as well as the anthology A Fine Excess: Contemporary Literature at Play – a project co-edited with poet Kristen Herbert and a finalist in the ForeWord Magazine Book of the Year Award.  Gann’s other written works of  the shorter fiction breed have appeared in the likes of Witness, The Best of Witness, The Crescent Review, American Writing, The Louisville Review, The Southeast Review and The Southern Indiana Review.  Gann’s repertoire has earned him several awards, including an Individual Artist Fellowship and two Professional Assistance Awards from the Kentucky Arts Council; he presently shares these lauded skills in the brief-residency MFA in Writing Program at Spalding University.

Join Gann tomorrow afternoon at the Carmichaels’ Frankfort Avenue store as he reads from Ghosting, pens signatures and shares his affable personality for free.  Ghosting is on sale now at both locations in paperback for $15.95; grab your copy, leave the beer in the car and spend some time acting smart before you act silly.  Local talent is worth some thunder of its own.

Carmichael’s Bookstore has two area locations: 1295 Bardstown Road and 2720 Frankfort Avenue.  For more information, visit the event page or call the Frankfort Avenue store at (502) 896-6950.

    About Erin Day

I'm a Louisville native who transplanted home from Las Vegas recently. Don't ask. In my spare time I read a lot of books and drink gin. My soulmate is my 1994 turquoise Ford Ranger - they never made a finer truck. I still totally believe in the Loch Ness Monster. I just want to write for you.
