    Bit to Do

Author John E. Findling brings the history of Crescent Hill to Carmichael’s

I’ve already waxed poetic many a turn about Louisville’s love and loyalty to its many distinct neighborhoods. You get the vibe from my flow. But how much do you know about the yesteryears of your favorite Louisville locales? There is probably a lot more to your choice neighborhood pub or homey haunt than just several strata of paint and some brick and mortar. Layers, my friends, are waiting to be peeled back and tell the stories of our fair city from the perspective of the neighborhoods that shape its eclectic whole. Join author John E. Findling this Sunday at Carmichael’s bookstore as he presents a history of Louisville’s vibrant Crescent Hill neighborhood, aptly titled Louisville’s Crescent Hill.

One of Louisville’s oldest and most beloved neighborhoods, the Crescent Hill area began life as the original site of the state fairgrounds (not to be confused with the current and perpetual circus to be found at any time in the Highlands) and transformed over the 19th and 20th centuries into the eclectic community of beautiful homes and local business now booming. Findling’s Louisville’s Crescent Hill retells this story with over 200 vintage photographs, providing curious locals a chance to drink in both information and images of the neighborhood’s evolution. Featuring sections on Crescent Hill’s conception, educational and charitable institutions, as well as the 1974 tornado, Findling’s history offers a wide range of material on one of Louisville’s most beautiful boroughs.

Beginning at 4pm at Carmichael’s Frankfort Avenue location (very fitting), Findling will present his book and be available for signatures. Copies of Louisville’s Crescent Hill are on sale now at both Carmichael’s location in paperback for $21.99. Spend your Sunday afternoon getting schooled in a history lesson that promises no tears of boredom woe. Stroll the streets, savor the flavors and then enjoy the history behind the hometown ‘hood.

Carmichael’s Bookstore has two are locations: 1295 Bardstown Road and 2720 Frankfort Avenue

    About Erin Day

I'm a Louisville native who transplanted home from Las Vegas recently. Don't ask. In my spare time I read a lot of books and drink gin. My soulmate is my 1994 turquoise Ford Ranger - they never made a finer truck. I still totally believe in the Loch Ness Monster. I just want to write for you.
