While I have yet to attend a game this year at Commonwealth, I think I’ve somehow escaped what was sure to have been some debauchery.

The 4 am “Last Call” (in Louisville, 2 am for most cities) has been a lifesaver for all of us at one time or another.

No matter how much fun we’ve had that night or how much we’ve had to drink or how much longer we think we can CONTINUE drinking – last call is always our “mother” in reminding us to stop drinking and go home.

    I correlate tail-gating with a night out.

You’re with your friends, you’re going to have fun, there is more-than-likely food involved at some point, but the main target is alcohol consumption.

And, that “last call” for tailgating?

    Kick off.

It doesn’t matter what time you started your party, kickoff means- get into the stadium (Commonwealth Stadium doesn’t serve alcohol like Pizza U just west down I-64). Well, unfortunately for UK fans, that “last call” hasn’t happened until 7 pm the last two games, which I can only imagine has made the atmosphere at the games slightly more, well- saucy.

    But, I digress…

The Wildcats are 3-0, which really isn’t a surprise to many people.

They are 3 wins away from becoming bowl eligible, which is a yearly goal for UK.

We can all hope those “bowl goals” involve a slightly further trip than Nashville or Memphis, but again- we are getting ahead of ourselves.

The first quarter for the ‘Cats… not so great.

Opening games that way may get you wins against WKU or Akron, but it simply won’t do against SEC-caliber teams.

Florida will chomp their way right into UK if they start this way next week.

We saw some new stars emerge, and for the first time in a lot of games going back even into last season and the one before- I felt comfortable with the lesser named players getting some playing time.

It’s a luxury UK hasn’t really had, at least in my lifetime, and I am hoping it’s a showing of greater things to come.

Overall, it was another great offensive performance by the Cats.

    They looked good.

But, they looked good against… AKRON.

So, while I will certainly celebrate being 3-0, I’m not ready to crown us champions of the SEC… or even SEC East.

And, let’s hope for their trip to Gainesville this week, the staff brings plenty of Pepcid and Zantac.

We’ll need Randall Cobb at 100% to win.

    Period.

    Florida will be a big enough enemy;

We don’t need to add heartburn as another one.

I’m pulling my fan card out as we head to U of F and saying the Cats upset Florida this week: 17-14.

    Go Cats!
