Who among us hasn’t heard, “You have your grandma’s eyes” or “You get that stubborn streak from your Uncle Joe” or even “Your laugh sounds just like your great-aunt Rose’s.” Sure, when children we tend to roll our eyes at stuff like this but still, we can’t help but think, “Who are these people? Is it true?”
Where do we come from?
On Saturday, March 23, visit the Main Branch of the Louisville Free Public Library on Genealogy Day to learn how to research your family history and find out the answer to that question.
Geared towards both amateur and experienced genealogists, the all-day seminar will cover many topics, including, but not limited to:
Social networking with other genealogists;
- KY land warrant research; and
- Caring for family documents and heirlooms.
The conference begins at 9:30 a.m. with a lecture from keynote speaker Dr. Doug Boyd, Director of the Louie B. Nunn Center for Oral History at the University of Kentucky. Dr. Boyd will speak on the importance of oral records in the documentation of both family and community histories. There will be a variety of seminars offered throughout the day, Genealogy Day Panel experts will be available to answer questions and there will be an opportunity to explore the Main Library’s genealogy resources.
The event is free and open to the public and registration is not required.
