Halloween is creeping upon your doorstep. Have you found your costume yet? If not, here are a few ideas for your consideration, whether you opt to shop your closet or plan to visit your local costume shop.
Did you happen to attend the 39th annual Taste of Louisville a couple of weeks ago? If you recall, the theme for the affair was the 1920s – think flapper dresses and boas for the ladies, pinstripe suits and fedoras for the gentlemen – so if you did dress for the occasion then, you have the perfect costume for Halloween now. Since it’s also going to be a bit chilly, throw on a suitable vintage fur coat to keep warm between parties.
Looking for something more awesome? Something to make your trick-or-treating metal, blacker than the blackest black times infinity? Then might I suggest going as Raider Fan? Though the Oakland Raiders might not be doing so well these days, their legion – and I do mean “legion” – of fans know how to make their presence known. Should you want to add some more local flavor to your effort, going as Cardinal Fan will be a hit at any party, unless said party is being hosted by Wildcat Fan, of course.
Want to be as fabulous as Rarity, my blog’s mascot? The usual interpretation by many cosplayers is a white dress, ears and horn with a purple wig. If you want to take it to the next level, though, leave the ears and horn at home. Instead, obtain said wig or – if possible – dye your hair that shade of dazzling purple, and opt for a power suit in white with a purple top. Add a pair of orange horn-rimmed reading glasses and measuring tape for added flair. And of course, use this guide by From Head to Toe to add the fashion designer’s cutie mark (three diamonds) to your face.
Where to go to get these supplies? Shop your closet if possible, then head down to the two Halloween Express stores at Jefferson Mall or on Shelbyville Road near Mall St Mathews. For Cardinal/Wildcat Fan gear, Champs Sports or Cardboard Heroes will do, followed by a stop at Play It Again Sports or Goodwill. Finally, for vintage clothes, visit Elizabeth’s Timeless Attire on Frankfort or Retro-Fit Vintage Clothing on West Oak Street. For Rarity’s outfit, White House Black Market is a good start.
