Kenny G struck a sour note with the Louisville Orchestra yestrerday when he cancelled his upcoming Feb. 13 appearance with the group.
Dumped for its Valentine's Day celebration, a lesser orchestra would
settle for staying home with a quart of Ben & Jerry's, a bottle of
Yellow Tail and a tin of cat food with Mr. Meow. But the Louisville Orchestra began searching for a replacement as soon as G cancelled (which we hear was done via a sticky note passed to the conductor by G's best friend). Details will be posted on the orchestra's website as they develop, but according to Pops conductor Bob Bernhardt, "the show will go on" (cliches exist for a reason).
G, who backed out of all of his appearances for the month, provided no reason for being unable to perform.
“Kenny G has a lot of fans in the Bluegrass," said orchestra CEO Robert Birman. "We, obviously, hope that he is OK and we are pursuing a resolution with his management. Serious artists don’t cancel on such short notice without a significant reason."
But rather than beg for G to come back, the orchestra has put on a brave face; it's rumored just to be asking for the return of some now-embarrassng mix tapes.
"His team in New York have offered the orchestra a handful of alternative dates for this spring, none of which are available for the orchestra due to pre-existing contracts and obligations,” Birman said.
This news comes less than two weeks after the city was also jilted by Richard Marx. Soothing adult-contemporary music gods, why hath thou forsaken Louisville?
