Music is often best when stripped down to its core. It’s most meaningful when we can pull up the veneer and see the chipped, unfinished wood beneath. The most poignant bands in history have proved this very point by making no-frills rock n’ roll, leaving all narcissism and self-indulgence behind (i.e. Bruce Springsteen, Nirvana, Tom Petty, and The White Stripes). It is in this analog tradition that Jeff the Brotherhood exists in our tweaked out digital world.
Jeff the Brotherhood is a duo made up of brothers Jake and Jamin Orrall. They were born and raised in Nashville with their singer/songwriter Robert Ellis Orrall (he is also a producer who has worked with artists like Reba McEntire, Lindsay Lohan, and Taylor Swift). The brothers began playing together in high school haven’t stopped yet. They’ve meandered in and out of several side project and other bands, but one never without his brother by his side.
It’s a sweet story, I’m sure.
The band has put out seven studio albums (not to mention two EP’s and a live album) since their 2002 indie debut, I Like You. In 2012 they put out their most recent album Hypnotic Nights, and have pretty much been on the road since then. They’ve been through Louisville many times on the course of their countless trips crisscrossing America, including an incendiary Forecastle performance in 2012.
Tonight, Jeff the Brotherhood will be returning to Louisville to put on one of their signature, high energy, electric performances at Zanzabar. Road warriors like The Brotherhood don’t get road weary, they bring one hundred percent of themselves, one hundred percent of the time.
Jeff The Brotherhood, tonight June 11th at Zanzabar (2100 S. Preston St.), Doors are at 7:00 PM, the show starts at 8:00 PM. Tickets range $9.25-$15. Catfish and the Bottlemen, Idiot Glee, and Alanna Fugate are also on the bill.
