To some, it may seem as though Kentucky's win over the Louisville Cardinals this past Saturday was like Christmas come nine months early. But in only a week, the most important holiday of the Christian calendar, to which Christmas plays second fiddle, will be upon us. To celebrate Easter, the Frankfort Avenue Business Association invites families of all background and creeds this Saturday, April 7, to its 20th Annual Easter Parade.
Like last year, this year's parade will include many favorite exhibits and activities: marching bands, dance teams, horse-drawn carriages, antique cars provided by the Shriners, martial artists from Hwang's, local Louisvillians in full festive costume, and even a few four-legged friends in their own rabbit ears. Make sure to come in your own lavishly decorated bonnet: you could win a "Good Ears" award from the FABA if yours is the most outrageous! The Judging Stand where the deliberation will take place will be located in front of the Irish Rover at 2319 Frankfort Avenue. Stop here if you wish to be considered for a prize and flaunt your Easter style for the judges. Similar awards will be handed out for the most creative float. Most importantly, don't forget to bring your own Easter baskets ready to be filled with heaps of free candy!
The parade begins around 11:30 a.m. in front of St. Mark's Episcopal Church (2822 Frankfort Avenue) and moves west towards downtown, ending at Halderman Avenue. As mentioned above, this event is open to anyone and everyone, and all visitors are encouraged to participate. There is no sign-up or admission fee, but participants must reigster in the parking lot of St. Mark's by 11:00 a.m. If you plan to be part of a larger group or organization, please call Michaelle Warner at (502)-419-6159 prior to the day of the parade.
