Anyone who knows me for any length of time knows I’m mildly obsessed with Muth’s Candy Store on Market Street. My great-grandfather used to buy me Modjeskas for Christmas from Muth’s, and my dad continued the tradition after he passed.
So it’s a pretty big deal for me to go to a different candy store. Or to try something different than my beloved Modjeskas. But recently while I was out having lunch at The Twig N Leaf with my son, I bribed him with the promise of a trip to a new candy store if he sat still and ate his lunch. I’d never admit it to him, but it was just as much for me as it was for him.
When I walked in the door, I was transfixed by the brightly colored confections. The selection at Dundee Candy Store was amazing, with the main theme being Easter candy. There were literally dozens of types of candy eggs- peanut butter, butter cream, vanilla, hazelnut, strawberry cheesecake, dark Swiss mint, White Russian, Black Forest, coffee caramel, amaretto, and coconut cream, just to name a few. And they each cam in milk or dark chocolate coating and were beautifully decorated.
My son chose malted milk eggs, which I don’t think he had ever had before. He shared them with his brother and they both loved them. I got a dark chocolate butter cream egg, and it was fantastic.
They had so much more to choose from than what I’ve written about here. You really just have to go see it for yourself. They also have a large selection of sugar-free candies.
We tend to only think about shopping locally for Christmas and winter Holidays, but I think shopping locally for our spring holiday gatherings is just as important. The Easter Bunny will be that much more popular if he buys handmade local candy this year.
