The Filson Historical Society has a spooky past and had an even spookier evening last night at their Old Louisville location. Fright Night, an annual four-story evening of Halloween themed-events, had several Filson fanatics dressed to impress in their costumes. The first floor, which had tarot card readings, the Filson’s own mummy, Annie, a “boo-ffet” and the “Pick Your Poison” bar, featuring drinks courtesy of Brown-Forman and Devil’s Punch concocted by Limestone Branch Distillery, had guests itching for more. Walking upstairs through spooky spider webs and being watched by the Filson’s historical portraits, guests continued to be entertained with musical performances by Dane Waters and Jonathan Wood while a series of unsettling images from the Filson’s collection projected onscreen. Heading up to the third floor and passing the Madison Cawein’s Death Masks that hung on the landing, guests were spooked by the ghastly ghost stories told in a terrifying manner. Last stop, was all the way to the basement, which used to be the morgue when the Ferguson Mansion was the Pearson Funeral Home. Guests memorialized the evening by getting their picture taken armed with creepy props and in front of a backdrop.

Events like Fright Night help the Filson Historical Society fund their commitment to the Louisville community, which is to collect, preserve, and tell the significant stories of Kentucky and Ohio Valley history and culture.
