Forecastle Festival's taking over the riverfront and downtown. Why not head to Old Louisville instead for free Shakespeare shows this weekend?
Audiences of all ages have two more chances, July 10 and 17 at 10 a.m. each day, to see free shows of Twelfth Night. The 45 minute production will take place in C. Douglas Ramey Amphitheatre at Central Park. Central Park is located at 4th and Magnolia streets in the Old Louisville district.
Twelfth Night is a Shakespearean comedy that centers on a wacky love triangle involving Viola, who has had to take on a male disguise and become an assistant to Duke Orsino. Viola (calling herself Cesario while in disguise) falls in love with Orsino, even though Orsino is courting Olivia. In turn, Olivia has fallen in love with Cesario, though Olivia does not know Cesario is really Viola.
The production will use puppets, music, Shakespearean language, and even audience participation to tell the story. Pamela DiPasquale directed and adapted the production.
In the same weekend, Richard III will also take place. The show, about a man attempting to gain power for himself at any cost, will run until July 11. This show is also free to attend.
