This weekend will definitely be one for freaks and geeks at Louisville Slugger Field.

That’s because the Louisville Bats will be hosting a pair of themed-home games that would appeal to virtually anyone who enjoyed F and G, or even those who never got a chance to appreciate the gone-way-too-fast television show that was produced by Judd Apatow and helped launch the acting careers of James Franco, Seth Rogen and Jason Segel (a.k.a. the “Stoner Pack”).

The freaky (and geeky) fun gets underway Thursday night, with 80’s Night, and continues Saturday night, with Star Trek Night. Both are first-time events and come on the heels of other similar, and successful, promotions (i.e. Star Wars Night) by the Bats, who are in the midst of a six-game homestand.

Gates open at 5:30 p.m. Thursday and that’s when the live music from the M80’s, a 1980’s cover band, is scheduled to begin on the Overlook Deck. As always, it will be Budweiser Beer Happy Hour with $1 Bud and Bud Light from 5:30-7 p.m. In addition to spending a little more time with the hair spray, fans are encouraged to wear Louisville Redbirds attire (hearkening back to the franchise’s 80’s glory days) or their favorite 80’s band t-shirt. Any fan doing so will receive $3 off admission.

That night, when the Bats host the Charlotte Knights (first pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m.), the first 1,500 fans in attendance will also receive a throwback Redbirds team trading card set.

As usual, Friday night will feature post-game fireworks after Louisville’s contest against Toledo.

Like (but definitely not to be confused with) the recent Star Wars Night, there will be plenty of Star Trek-themed sights and sounds at Slugger Field on Saturday night, when the Bats host the Mud Hens at 6:05 p.m. Fans are encouraged to dress as their favorite Star Trek characters (are you a Kirk, Spock or Sulu?) as the Bats will be sporting yellow USS Enterprise-themed jerseys. Next week those jerseys will be auctioned off with proceeds benefitting the ALS Association of Kentucky.

In addition to the usual Kids Eat Free and Kids Run the Bases promotions, Sunday’s game against Toledo (which is slated to start at 6:05 p.m.) will also feature the Mini-Bat and Back-to-School Folder giveways for the first 1,000 kids 12-and-under through the gates. For more information visit www.batsbaseball.com.

The Bats (50-54 through Monday) are currently in third place in the International League West, 8.5 games behind both Columbus and Indianapolis in the division and wild card standings.
