A post-war Japanese village, a bumbling army officer, and a meddling interpreter provide the basis for the comedy Teahouse of the August Moon, which will open at Floyd Central High School on Thursday.
Performances of Teahouse of the August Moon will take place at Floyd Central High School, located at 6575 Old Vincennes Road in Floyds Knobs, IN. Performances will take place in the high school's Studio One Theatre on October 14, 16, and 17 at 7 p.m. each night. Matinees, meanwhile, will occur on Oct. 16 and 17 at 2 p.m. each day.
Tickets for each show depend on the performance. Evening shows and the Oct. 17 matinee are $10 for adults and $6 for students. The Oct. 16 matinee show will be $5 for all tickets. Due to limited seating in the theatre, reservations are recommended and can be made by calling 812-542-2284. More information on the show can be found at Floyd Central's website.
In the comedy Teahouse, an army officer named Captain Fisby must head to post-WWII Tobeki in Okinawa in order to teach the villagers about America. Unfotunately, Fisby and the villagers have differing ideas on the village's future. To make matters worse (or more comedic, depending on point of view), Fisby has a tendancy to do the wrong things at the wrong times. Sakini, Fisby's interpreter, winds up sending Fisby into some careless predicaments.
For Floyd Central, Teahouse of the August Moon stars Jonathan Sieg as Captain Fisby, Zach Hebert as Sakini, Marina Hart as Geisha, and Isak Morehouse as Colonel Purdy.
Teahouse, created by John Patrick, was based on the Vern Sneider book of the same name. The production made it on Broadway, running for more than 1,000 performances in the 1950s. Teahouse on the August Moon also became a film in 1956.
Floyd Central's next production will be The Drowsy Chaperone, which will take place on the main stage in November.
