If you were walking around 4th Street near Fourth Street Live! yesterday evening, you may have noticed a parade of models in various forms of the classic little black dress carrying black signs with vague messages, a specific date, and a URL in white text. You may have wondered what exactly it was you just witnessed.
Wonder no more.
October 19th is Little Black Dress Day, the day chosen to honor Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel's introduction of a straight, calf-length, unadorned black dress in the October 1926 issue of Vogue. In celebration, Brown-Forman's Little Black Dress Vodka is holding flash mob catwalks throughout the United States from the 3rd until the 18th, culminating on the 19th by imploring all women to don their finest little black dresses.
Models from Greenhouse briefly walked the red carpet in front of Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurant -- formerly Borders Books - before starting their circulation through 4th Street between Main and Broadway from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Each model carried small black signs with phrases in white text such as "Show us yours," and "How does yours make you feel?" through the happy hour crowd in order to draw attention not only to the impromptu fashion show, but to the designed-for-women-by-women vodka, and to the iconic fashion symbol.
"We wanted to do something fun and different," explained Brown-Forman PR representative Maggie Peak in regards to the flash catwalks. "We thought we could do this catwalk of women, and getting women in various cities to just ask them to come out wearing their own version of the little black dress."
The event, originally scheduled for October 2nd, had been delayed due to poor weather conditions.
