Exciting, impressive, high energy, amazing, outstanding... I could go on and on about Kool & the Gang’s Fourth of July Waterfront Park concert. Alas, the rainy weather and muddy field kept some spectators hesitant to see Kool & the Gang “Get Down On It.” Fortunately, the crowd slowly grew as Kool & the Gang started playing. It had a Field of Dreams theme going on - “if you build it they will come.” In their case, if you play the funk, they will dance. The euphonic performance included classics like, “Jungle Boogie,” “Joanna,” “Hollywood Swingin’,” “Too Hot,” “Summer Madness,” “Cherish,” “Tonight,” and of course “Ladies Night.” Kool & the Gang not only sang to the audience, but they also shimmied, shook their hips, twirled, swayed, and cartwheeled for the hundreds of fans. For the finale they sang “Celebration” while the fireworks burst over the Ohio River. It was a performance to remember and the best way to celebrate Independence Day. If you ever have the chance to see Kool & the Gang perform live, go and see them. You won’t regret it!
