Uptown Art Uncorked, a favorite girl's night out spot in the Highlands, will host a family day on Saturday, November 10 at 2:00 pm (doors open at 1:00 pm). This is a great chance to check out one of the most talked about places in Louisville, where it's difficult to find an unhappy customer. If you're unfamiliar with the drinking-and-drawing concept: you pay $29 for a 16 x 20 canvas, paints, and instruction. You paint a pre-selected picture (view the calendar of paintings here) with your friends in a laid-back atmosphere, nibble on snacks, and imbibe—if you so choose—from Uptown's wine and beer bar. Sounds easy, right? It is. And it's fun, too!
A look at the gallery of happy painters on Uptown Art's website clearly shows that this social, throw-inhibitions-out-the-window approach to painting is a hit with the masses. And if your kids love to paint, but you don't love to clean up afterwards (I think that covers everyone), Uptown Art also serves as a great studio for your child's artistic expression.
Uptown Art's Family Day is coming up on November 10. You're encouraged to bring children ages 5-12, and $29 will cover one canvas. If you and your child (or multiple children) would like your own painting, you'll need to pay for two tickets. You'll be painting a black and orange harvest pumpkin scene (pictured), perfect for display from September through November.
In the spirit of creativity and spending time with family, Uptown Art will donate a portion of ticket and bar sales towards the Louisville Children's Museum. What's that? You haven't visited the Louisville Children's Museum? That's because, even though we are a top-30 market that can boast opera, ballet, symphony, and theater groups, we do not have a museum dedicated to children featuring hands-on, interactive exhibits in a wide array of academic areas. A grassroots effort to establish the Louisville Children's Museum is currently in full swing, hosting fundraisers and contests, meeting with businesses and city leaders, and listening to the hundreds of parents, grandparents, and educators who are helping shape this vision for Louisville's families. Board members from LCM will be at Uptown Art with information, volunteer opportunities, and door prizes. And one more enticing reason to sign up for family day on November 10: once you have registered for this (or any November) class, you will be automatically entered to win $500 cash and a $100 Uptown Art gift card. See you on November 10!
