Highland Commerce Guild is hosting an opportunity for Louisville visual artists to share their work and get $1,000 for their design.
The Art Committee of the HCG is sponsoring a juried competition for an artist to design a mural for the north-facing wall of The Wine Market at the corner of Bardstown Rd and Lucia Ave. The winner will be chosen by experienced artists, the HCG Art Committee, and the property owner.
The subject or theme of the mural will be relevant to life in the Highlands, and it is expected to remain on the building beyond three years.

Submissions must include the following
1)design - 11" x 17" full color mounted on art board, foam core, etc but NOT framed
2)Entry fee of $10 - check made payable to Highland Commerce Guild
3)plan of execution with a week-by-week timetable
4)artist statement
5)Prior experience
6)Sample of relevant work
7)Proof of age

The official entry form has a photo with dimensions of available wall space to use in designs.
Artists must be 18-years-old or older, and designs can not be an advertisement for any place of business. The winner will be selected by a paenl of judgges in mid-August and announced on August 25 at a reception hosted by Highlands Art Studios at 1220 Bardstown Rd. Artists may pick up their submissions after the reception.
The winner will be given $1,000 and will be alloted time to paint the wall from August 25 to September 28, 2011. Wall preparation, paint, materials, and sealing will be provided to the artist. Artists are encouraged to visit the space and may choose any size mural within the dimensions for their submission. A mural presentation party will be held September 30, 2011 at 7 p.m.
