    Bit to Do

It’s here. Derby week in Louisville. It’s something different for everyone. For some, it’s party time with friends and family at home. For others, it’s matching that perfect dress with the perfect shoes with the perfect hat and attending Louisville’s Derby, the Oaks. And for those like my family and me, it might be attending some of the prominent events that we’ve never been to as a family such as The Great Steamboat Race and The Pegasus Parade downtown.

Starting tonight, Monday, April 29, from 5pm-9pm, there are some other lower-key options for you and your family. One that I ran across today is the Happy Tail Hour on the Waterfront with LMAS. It’s tonight starting at 5pm. This event is going on at the Chow Wagon and will have tons of fun activities including disc dog demos, vendors promoting everything dog-friendly, and will showcase some adoptable animals as well.  Let your furry friends enjoy their own Derby festivities! There will also be games, live music, and the SPOT mobile adoption vehicle will be on site. The event is in conjunction with Kroger’s Fest-a-Ville and Louisville Metro Animal Services. LMAS will also be appearing in the Pegasus Parade on Thursday, May 2 and will be showcasing many adoptable animals.

On Friday, May 3, three Louisville Free Public Library locations are hosting Derby related storytimes. At 10:30am, make a stop at the Crescent Hill library for their “Make a Derby Hat” time for ages 4 and up. Call 502- 574-1793 for more information. At 2:00pm, head downtown to the Main Library for “Derby Time!” It’s another chance to make a festive hat to show off at your family party. For ages 3 and up; call 502-574-1611 for more information. And at 3:00pm, make your way to the Fairdale branch for their “Oaks Day Storytime.” They will host a special storytime and craft about Louisville, horses, and all things Derby; for ages 4-10. Call 502-375-2051 for more information.
