Derby isn't the only racy competition occurring Saturday. Kentucky's burlesque scene will take place in the national Burlypicks competition Saturday at 9 p.m. at Art Sanctuary in Germantown. There will be 21 local and national burlesque and variety acts taking the stage by storm for a chance to win a cash prize and move on to represent Kentucky in Los Angeles. Tickets are $15 in advance or at the door.
Some of the highlights of the show include Va Va Vixens' Victoria doing cube aerial, Wisconson's Claira Bell doing lyra aerial, and a comedic contortionist Mason Doodle, who can put his entire body through three tennis rackets.
The Burlypicks competition is brought to Kentucky by Crystal Swarovski (who has been naked onstage in 19 countries) and is tied in with her online zine Burlesque Bitch. "Burlesque Bitch is committed to re-expanding the definition of burlesque to include all the variety that made it a national treasure and world wide entertainment phenomenon. "
A local performer Khristina Smith (aka Hot Damn) has been handling the promotion and production work to pull the event off on Derby night in Kentucky (and another in New Orleans); she can be contacted at Kdsmith2011@yahoo.com for more information. Known as the Sassy Seamed lady, Foxy La Feelion has been in the burlesque scene for about 10 years now. As a classically trained dancer, she has studied with companies such as Twyla Tharp, Alvin Ailey, Paul Taylor and much more! She began twirling her tassels as a member of the Alley Cat Revue. Currently Foxy is a solo artist, choreographer for the Hoochie Coochie Girls and Beggars Carnivale! She can be seen all over the country demonstrating her famous ass cheeks glove removal! Foxy is Kansas City burlesque festival Queen 2012 and Shimmy Showdown champion of 2012! We are very excited to welcome the incredible Foxy La Feelion!!
