It may be all ice and snow outside, but the most Louisville-centric sign of springtime I can think of is happening today: Dairy Kastle is open. According to their website, the Germantown staple right down the road from the University of Louisville is serving once more as of today, March 4, 2014.
I've waxed eloquent before about my love affair with Dairy Kastle, with their Orange Cow (sherbert and Sprite), and even their chili dogs. Their menu is cheap, all-American, and cash-only. Perhaps one of my favorite summer pastimes involves sitting in cutoff shorts, eating a cherry cordial milkshake and socializing outside the often-packed parking lot of Dairy Kastle. If you're new to Louisville, you have to go. If you've lived here forever, I'm sure I'll see you there.
