It's that time of the year. Sunshine, sun tans and lots of ice cream to keep cool. Here are our favorite places to grab ice cream and dairy treats in the Southern Indiana and Louisville area. They are in no particular order and if you think we left one out, please let us know in the comments!

    Polly’s Freeze

Polly’s Freeze is a staple ice cream parlor in Georgetown, IN, located off of State Road 62. They’ve been operating since 1952 and have a family atmosphere that makes you feel at home. Enjoy ice cream treats and the countryside at their rural location.

Homemade Ice Cream and Pie Kitchen

Ice cream. Pies. Baked Goods. Need I say more? You must try their handcrafted ‘Smurf’ flavor. It tastes just like the blue in Superman hand dip. Ahh, nostalgia.

    Dairy Kastle

'It takes you back to when you were a child and life was slower and easier... People talk about ice cream socials. Well, this place is social. When you sit down, you're with everybody else." - George Hayden.

I couldn't have said it better myself! Dairy Kastle is one of Louisville's favorites, located right off of Eastern Parkway. Stop by for a ice cream and chili dog!

    Berry Twist

Located in Floyd Knobs, Berry Twist may be a secret to some, but they've been in the ice cream game for a long time. Having moved from a outdoor setting to a indoor parlor, it's a great place to cool down and enjoy their many assorted flavors of sherbet!

    The Comfy Cow

What's not to love about The Comfy Cow? They've got delicious flavors year round and many seasonally, too. I tried the Banana Walnut Fudge just last night and it was SO YUMMY. And if you're picky like me, you'll really enjoy the tray of three scoops of any of your choice of flavor, so you don't have to pick just one!

    Two Dips & A Shake

2 Dips & A Shake offers a wide selection of frozen treats, from their build your own sundae to their Peachy Peach ice cream scoop. Located on Main Street, you'll be tempted to grab your ice cream and explore the city!

The Barrel of Fun and Ice Cream

Located in Okolona, The Barrel of Fun and Ice Cream is located in a shaded woody area, which is great for a treat after a day of enjoying the weather with friends and family. They are cash only, so leave the plastic at home!

    The Widow’s Walk Ice Creamery

Arguably my favorite place in Southern Indiana. A beautiful view of the Louisville skyline, delicious ice cream and the Ohio River State Park in sight. You must try their famous ‘Proud Mary Peanut Butter Cup Sundae’ and rent a bike for a ride through the state park!

    Dairy Del

A Germantown staple, the Dairy Del is a great place to take the family for their famous milkshakes. From cheesecake, to pineapple or butterscotch, you'll be in milkshake heaven. Let's not forget their many other delicious items, including flurries, hot dogs and more!

    Zesto's

Zesto's is a tradition in New Albany. After baseball games, you go to Zesto's. After a football win at New Albany High School, you go to Zesto's. After your first date, you go to Zesto's. You see where I'm going. My personal favorite is the Big Chill, a slushie with a scoop of ice cream on it with two little candy eyes that make it look like your treat is staring at you. Creepy, but still delicious.

    Louisville Cream

In Louisville, we love Louisville. So what’s better than ice cream made with local dairy to craft Louisville Cream's own original flavors. And they even make custom flavors!

    The Arctic Scoop

Create your own masterpiece at The Arctic Scoop.  From ice cream combos, pies, cakes, or ice cream sandwiches, the possibilities are endless. “Any flavor Ice Cream can be sandwiched between cookies, brownies, or waffles.” I like the way they think.

    Mom & Pop's Corner

I've been going to Mom & Pop's since I was young and I always get 'Bibbity Boppity Boo," which is a combination of vanilla ice cream, strawberry sauce, M & M's, gummy bears and magic foo-foo dust. Yes, magic foo-foo dust. For creative, quirky and delicious sundaes, ice cream, or sandwiches, Mom and Pop's is the place to go. Bring cash, because they do not accept plastic.
