Prohibition was the stuff of nightmares, but on this date in 1933 the nightmare was over. Celebrate with booze at these local places!
Bourbons Bistro’s Repeal Day Party
6:00-10:00pm
2255 Frankfort Avenue
Bourbons Bistro is having a big repeal day party, playing prohibition era movies in the bar area. Prohibition and flapper costumes are strongly encouraged! Bourbons has one of the very best bourbon lists around.
9:00pm
425 West Chestnut Street
I will personally be camped out at Meta’s front door waiting for the 6:00pm opening. Check out 3 Things We Hope for Meta and our article on Breaking up With Your Bar—I am definitely getting over MEAT with this place. Pre-prohibition era cocktails are the perfect way to celebrate Repeal Day!
Repeal Day Bourbon Tasting at the Filson Historical Society
6:00-8:00pm
1310 South Third Street
The Filson Historical Society (who put on the super fun Beard, Bouffants and Bourbon event last month) are sampling rare bottles of prohibition-era Kentucky Tavern bourbon bottled in 1925 and Weller Original Barrel Proof bottled in 1951. Buffalo Trace is sponsoring the event, with a reception following. The tasting is limited to 50 people, with a cost of $100 for non-members, and reservations are required: 502-365-5083.
Proof’s Annual Repeal Day Celebration
Make reservations at 502-217-6300
700 West Main Street
The staff at Proof will be dressed in their prohibition era finest, and guests are encouraged to do the same. Bowls of fake mustaches will also be provided so everyone can be properly mustached. The regular cocktail list will be available, but there will also be a new list solely dedicated to new cocktails of the era.
Happy Repeal Day!
