Blackacre State Nature Preserve and Historic Homestead is hosting a two-day festival celebrating resource conservation, a cleaner environment and healthy lifestyles. But it’s going to be a lot more fun than all that serious stuff.
In the Blackacre community garden, you’ll find local vendors and lots of food, demonstrations and live music at the Best Bloomin’ Arts and Crafts Festival.
Highlights include a Friday night adults-only high-energy concert by CABIN, a local band dedicated to raising awareness of environmental issues. Saturday, visitors will have an opportunity to shop vendors' booths in the communal arts and crafts fair in the community garden.
Saturday will also include an early-morning Farmer's Market, a Lil' Sprouts Educational and Play Area for children, and several local food vendors. The afternoon will close to the accompaniment of Appalatin.
The Community Garden at Blackacre has been in operation since 1981 and is the largest community garden in Jefferson County, at 300 plots for seasonal or year-round gardening, including organic and non-organic. As part of its seasonal opening, Blackacre wants to further educate the community on the importance of green living, growing your own food, and buying local products -- with some serious fun!
The festival will run May 15 from 5:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and May 16 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Blackacre is located at 3200 Tucker Station Road.
