With construction beginning soon for the expansion for the Home of the Innocents, there is plenty of reason for the community to get involved. This Saturday, September 6th is your chance to support one of Louisville’s largest child advocacy centers.

The Big Ol’ Back Yard BBQ will offer food and family fun from 5:30- 8:00 pm at the Home, located at 1100 E Market Street. Come out and listen to music, play some games and enjoy food prepared by local four-star chefs. Hayrides, inflatables for the kids and cornhole games will also be available for this family-friendly event.

For 125 years, the Home of the Innocents has been the home for many of Louisville’s less-fortunate children. They provide help and care for children who have been abused, neglected or abandoned. Their Childkind Center provides both short and long term residential care while the Joan E Thomas Children’s Village offers round-the-clock treatment and counseling for those in need. The center also provides education and outreach for families throughout the Louisville Metro area with their community based staff and programs.

The Home of the Innocents also provides top-notch care and treatment for children who are medically fragile and terminally ill at their Kosair Charities Pediatric Convalescent Center. It is our region’s only long-term residential facility for children with physical and/or developmental disabilities. Often those who have the greatest need in life are those who are the most innocent- our children and youth.

These programs and facilities are possible with the help of our community and its residents. So, come on out Saturday for some great food and family times, with the knowledge you are helping those who need it the most.

In addition, donations are always needed and accepted at the home. Those items include some of the most basic necessities including: lotion, toothpaste, baby wash, cotton balls, shaving cream and soap among other things. For an entire list of items and more information, please visit: http://www.homeoftheinnocents.org/default.aspx

Ticket prices are $50 for adults and $30 for students. For additioanl information on the Backyard BBQ, please call : (502) 596-1025
