    Sukkot in Louisville

Happy October! It’s a month beckoning in the gorgeous auburns of autumn, deliciously crisp chill air (when we are not in the midst of roaring winds and rainstorms here in our fair ‘ville), and fabulous seasonal festivities. But to tide you over until candy corn and All Hallow’s Eve, you might be interested to learn about the exciting holiday we Jews know as Sukkot.

Sukkot is a celebration that rejoices in building a temporary home known as a Sukkah outside in the elements, where you dine, wine, and bond together for seven days and seven nights. It’s a time of joy, of harvest, and of communal spirits running abound.

Thankfully, Keneseth Israel is ready to help you party with all sorts of enticing activities. Tonight, October 3rd, at 7:00 p.m., they are having a Beer in the Booth Havdalah, with a beer tasting from Moody Tongue Brewery in Chicago, owned by Jared Roubin and his cousin, Jeremy. Make sure you are 21+ years of age to throw back these libations in legal, luscious fashion. Fun fact for the newcomers: Havdalah is a spiritual ceremony marking the end of Shabbat and celebrating the start of a brand new week. In life’s hurried pace, sometimes it is nice to take a moment all about appreciation of this beautiful life through commemoration and merriment!

Tomorrow, Sunday, October 4th at 12:00 p.m. Keneseth will be rocking out in the afternoon with Pizza and Pita in the Hut. Can you ever really turn down an opportunity for pizza? Keneseth will allow you to make your own pizza and falafel (Middle-Eastern deep-fried goodness made from ground chickpeas, fava beans, or both). Hang out with like-minded individuals who will be busy devouring all these sensational eats; and enjoy a lovely Fall afternoon.

Monday, October 5th is my kryptonite, as I am all about more than three cheers for ice cream. On Monday at 6:00 p.m., there will be a Simchat Torah Dinner Party, which will be a cordial, family-style dinner followed by fun Torah activities and, drum roll please, an ice cream sundae bar!

Celebrate fall, Sukkot, and amazing food in general with triumphant Jewish flavor at Keneseth this weekend. All in the community are welcome to attend at no charge at all. Happy Sukkot, Louisville!
