Recently, The Daily Beast conducted a poll ranking US cities by the number of fast food restaurants per number of residents. The poll revealed that Louisville has 147.1 fast food restaurants per 100,000 people, putting us #2 on the list. Honestly, I'm not surprised. After all, we live in the land of Yum!

Even though Louisville ranks second in fast food restaurants, and is the home of nationwide pizza giants like Pizza Hut and Papa John's, a small shop on Baxter Ave. seems to have stolen the hearts of pizza lovers across the city. Papalinos(949 Baxter Ave) has made quite a mark.

When I first moved to Louisville just about everyone I met told me that Papalinos was THE place to go for a great slice of NY style pizza, and it looks like people all across the city agree. They beat out 7 other Highlands pizzerias for first place in both Critic's Choice and People's Choice categories of the 2010 Slice of the Highlands competition. That's not too shabby.

To celebrate their one year anniversary, Papalinos is offering a winning deal. Come in this Saturday, February 26th, between 11am and 4pm and receive a slice of their plain or peperoni pizza for a buck. That's right folks...$1. Even the most beloved fast food dollar menu can't beat that. And don't worry, these won't be sample size bites, they're serving up Papalino's regular full size slices.
