I know many people with gluten allergies and going out to eat can be a challenge for them.  I've put together a guide to a few Louisville locations that offer gluten-free items.

Annie May's Sweet Cafe caters to people with food allergies. They offer a large variety of delicious treats including cupcakes, ice cream, cookies and boxed lunches. They make all of their desserts from scratch and each item is without wheat, gluten, peanuts, tree nuts, or soy.  I've had their cupcakes and I couldn't tell they were without gluten. Annie May's desserts are full of flavor and a great way to treat someone whether they have food allergies or not!

Annie May's Sweet Cafe is located at 3110 Frankfort Avenue.

Puccini's Smiling Teeth is an family owned pizza chain in Indiana and Kentucky.  They have recently developed a gluten-free menu of pizzas and pastas. Gluten-free pizzas cost the same as regular ones and come with over 40 different gluten-free toppings. Pastas cost just $1 more than regular menu options,  but customers can order a wide variety of gluten-free sauces and toppings as well.

Puccini's Smiling Teeth is located at 4600 Shelbyville Road, #101 near Feeder's Supply and Trader Joes.

Apocalypse Brew Works is a new Louisville brewery powered by solar panels. They have committed to having a fermenter and a tap set aside for gluten-free beer. The beer has a sorghum base and includes buckwheat, honey, hops, water and yeast.  The gluten-free beer will be available at the brewery and hopefully in local stores soon.

Apocalypse Brew Works is located at 1612 Mellwood Avenue.

Grind Gourmet Burger Truck is new to the Louisville food truck scene.  Their menu currently offers a gluten-free option featuring a veggie/vegan gluten-free burger on a gluten-free bun.  The burger is made of chickpea, lentils, spaghetti squash, Portobello mushrooms and almonds with house-made Adobo sauce.  Grind sources locally grown seasonal products for their menu.

    About Mary Margaret Sparks

I grew up overseas in Asia and at 18 moved to Kentucky to attend Georgetown College. I received a degree in Visual Art and English Literature. I am a sculptor and textile artist focusing on advocacy work. I also have my own company called Fly Away Fox where I create unique accessories with vintage fabric such as pillows, hair accessories, children clothes and aprons. I also work at Block Party Handmade Boutique as the public relations and social media manager. I currently write for the Arts-Louisville website as a visual art reviewer and now for Louisville.com. I try to showcase Louisville's unique food culture through new restaurant reviews, small locally owned businesses and the international community.
