    The American Cancer Society wants your help in the fight against cancer
    Print this page

    According to Healthy Kentuckians 2010, Kentucky has the third highest cancer mortality rate in the United States and cancer is the second leading cause of death in the Bluegrass state, coming in just slightly behind heart disease.

    As anyone who has been affected by cancer knows, cancer is a diagnosis that is not only devastating to the person receiving the diagnosis but to everyone who fights alongside them, from family and friends to the community at large.

    The American Cancer Society wants to halt this devastation by figuring out what causes cancer and educating people on how to prevent it. They have developed a new research project to help them achieve their goal. There’s only thing they need to proceed with the project.

    You.

    The American Cancer Society wants to enroll a minimum of 300,000 adults (male and female) between the ages of 30 and 65 who have never had cancer from various racial/ethnic groups across the United States in their Cancer Prevention Study-3 (CPS-3). Participation is easy and enrollment takes places between March 19 and March 20, 2013.

    Interested? Here’s what you’ll need to do:

    • Schedule an appointment  by going to  cps3kyin.org
    • Fill out the first and most comprehensive survey, which will take around 45-60 minutes of your time.
    • Enroll in person, which will only take 20-30 minutes. At this meeting you’ll
      • Sign a consent form;
      • Get your waist circumference measured; and
      • Give a blood sample.

     After the in person enrollment, you’ll receive surveys by mail every few years to update your information. You’ll also receive an annual study newsletter that will include updates on the research results.

    That’s it.

    Pretty easy, right?
