It’s time for something weird.  And if we're honest with each other, we all need something a little bit weird every now and then.  Tuesday night at Kaiju, David Liebe Hart will be performing his more than a little bizarre brand of alternative comedy.

He is some kind of revivalist renaissance man with broad interests from being a puppeteer (which is what he’s most noted for), musician, street performer, sign painter, artist and actor.  He often finds himself writing about religion (he’s a noted Christian Scientist), aliens, trains, women and his personal life. It’s an eccentric mix spirituality, philosophy, and comedy.

Hart has been a renowned cult figure in Los Angeles for years, known primarily the Angelinos for being a street performer outside of the Hollywood Bowl and Los Angeles Performing Arts Center with his puppet “Doug the Dog.”  He is also known in L.A. for his public access television show “The Junior Christian Teaching Bible Lesson Program.”

Nationally, he is best known recently for several appearances on the hit Adult Swim program “Tim & Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!”  On the hit Cartoon Network super surreal show, Hart is generally performing bizarre puppetry and singing in a variety of different voices.

Hart was born in Chicago in the mid-50s, but eventually moved to Los Angeles in the mid-70s when he decided pursue a career in entertainment.  He has supposedly worked with Robin Williams; and definitely appeared on “The Gong Show,” “Golden Girls” and “Wings.”  More recently he has made notable impressions as a guest on Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” and “Jimmy Kimmel Live.”

David Liebe Hart will be performing Tuesday June 9th at Kaiju in Germantown.  The Show begins at 9:00 PM and tickets are $10 at the door.  Black Birds of Paradise and Sweatermeat will also be performing on the show.

    About Brent Owen

Born and raised in Louisville, I have lived here most of my life (except during a short furlough, when I, lovelorn and naive, followed a girl to Baton Rouge). My roots are here, my family, my friends, and my life are all here. I work primarily as a free-lance writer for a few local and regional publications. I have also written two books (one a memoir, the other a novel) that barring some divine intervention, will probably never see the light of day. I find myself deeply ingrained in the local bar scene, or perhaps better said, I often indulge in the local drinking culture. I love music, movies, comedy, and really just about any other live performance art.
