Saturday evening Village 8’s box office line stretched across the parking lot. At a sold-out showing, the thirteen best award-winning films from this year’s project were showcased. It’s impressive to note that all of the films completed within a 48 hour period from scratch, with only a selected genre and a required line, character, and prop.
As expected, the films were funny, clever, creative, and of course filled with Louisville landmarks. Some of the more challenging genres produced the most memorable films – a CSI-inspired Fairy Tale mystery, an autobiographical mockumentary, a musical about peeing, and a gritty horror film from a team who, according to their post on the project’s blog, were hoping for any genre but horror.
As with previous years, the films produced are always at such a high level of craftsmanship that it’s nearly hard to believe that the entire project was completed over a single weekend. More impressive is the fact six of the thirteen teams from this year’s 48 Hour Film Project Best-Of showing were new teams, including a film completed by one single person.
Awards ranged from audience awards to best original score to best acting and costumes. Louisville’s winning team for this year was “Phenomenal Johnson,” produced by now three-time winning Team Hiho!
