For those of you who missed the initial showings last week, the 48 Hour Film Project will present the best thirteen films from this year’s selection. The locally-produced films range in genre, from silent to horror to mockumentary to crime. Teams in the Best Of showcase include several new faces as well as past city winners.
The task was no simple one: 52 teams set to complete a short film within 48 hours over the weekend of July 20. This means starting from scratch – they had to write , film, edit, cast within this period. The organizer, Chad Thomas, writes, “To ensure that films were created during the project weekend, each team was given three elements at the kickoff—a line of dialogue, a character, and a prop.” This year, each team had to use a ball, a politician named Jack or Jill Olsen, and had to include the line “Help me get this out.”
The judges of this year’s selection were Scott Shuffit of “Brick and Mortar and Love” and Lebowskifest fame, as well as KET producer Clark Bradshaw and film teacher Angela Impellizerri. In addition to winning expensive software and equipment, the overall winner will get the golden ticket to Hollywood to receive their trophy at Filmapalooza.
I used to work at Village 8, where the films are showing, and this event is always a hit. The films are always great and creative (plus, it’s just fun to spot all the Louisville landmarks) , and the crowd in past years has been eager and energetic. It’s your last chance to support these local films, so don’t miss out.
