Justin Lewis opened the show Friday night at Uncle Slayton’s to an adorning crowd who came to see local music at its best.  The CD release party for Leigh Ann Yost was in full swing when Lewis charmed the audience with an acoustic set with accompanying trumpet player and long time friend, Michael Felker.  The young at heart budding musician excitedly plays his original arrangements with the assurance and resolve of a seasoned performer.

Justin attributes his passion for music to his father’s love of music; a trait passed on to his son.  Discovering the guitar in his teens, Justin quickly found he truly loves writing and performing.  Louisville’s music scene is a great place for a up and coming musician, thus Justin takes note to surround himself with others who share his love of music.  A self described, “very picky writer”, Lewis accredits his fast paced song writing of late to time spent with other singer/songwriters in the area. “Other positive minded musicians have been a huge help with my growing process.”  Inspiration for Justin’s recent offerings center around the concept of “home” and what it means to be there.

Justin is making plans to leave Louisville for a bit with dates set in Chicago and New York in the coming year, although Lewis will play in Louisville whenever possible.  Plans are also in the works for an album with Ben Sollee to be released Spring 2012. Justin raves about the talent in Louisville, “Louisville has a handful of such great loving musicians. It’s always an inspiration to be around them.”
