We all know the timeless classic "Old MacDonald Had a Farm," but what if Old MacDonald had a guitar instead of a pitchfork, and his huge barn full of animals was actually a stage surrounded by adoring fans? With the help of Farmer Jason, these questions have been answered for us. This singer-songwriter has become a family music sensation in recent years, thanks to his fun, wholesome artistry, and he will be bringing his energetic show to Louisville this month.

On February 7, Farmer Jason's brand-new album, Nature Jams, was released on Universal Music's new family label, myKaZoo Music, and to celebrate, this corn-fed crooner will be taking a nationwide tour. One of his first stops is in our own River City, at Uncle Slayton's, where he will be performing for fans of all ages at 4 p.m. on Saturday, February 18. After the family has finished rocking, older fans can stick around for a second "grown-ups-only" show sponsored by 91.9 WFPK, featuring Louisville's own Heidi Howe, a talented musician based right here in our hometown. It begins at 9 p.m., and admission is $12 in advance or $15 at the door.

"Farmer Jason" is the stage name of Jason Ringenberg, who began his musical career in the mid-1980s, blending punk rock and country in a bold, innovative way with his band, Jason and the Scorchers. When he created his family-music character of Farmer Jason in 2003 after going solo, it was purely for the benefit of his daughters, but his infectious songs soon spread across the country, to the delight of children everywhere. His first two albums, Down on the Farm with Farmer Jason and Rockin' the Forest with Farmer Jason, have earned him awards from Disney's Family Fun magazine, the 2006 Parents' Choice Gold award, and an Emmy for "Best Children's Program, Mid-South Region" in 2009. Don't miss out on this chance for you and your family to jump on the Farmer Jason bandwagon... pulled by a tractor, of course!

Farmer Jason performs at Uncle Slayton's (1018 East Broadway) on February 18 at 4 p.m.; doors open at 3 p.m., and tickets cost $8. An additional show featuring Heidi Howe will open at 9 p.m.; tickets cost $12 in advance or $15 at the door. To purchase tickets, or for more information, call (502)-657-9555, or visit the Uncle Slayton's homepage. About Karen Ellestad

When I was seven and my brother was eight, we both wrote to 'Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?' for a free t-shirt. Two weeks later his arrived in the mail, signed by Carmen Sandiego herself, accompanied by an autographed picture of the cast, an official membership to the 'Gumshoe Club,' and a Rockapella casette tape. I got a postcard.
