If you’re a fan of “The X Factor,” you’re already very familiar with Josh Krajcik. The 31 year old bluesy rocker with the gravelly voice from Columbus, Ohio finished in the top two last year. And his life hasn’t been the same since. His appearance on Season 1 of the show brought fame, exposure, and some exciting new opportunities.
Krajcik (his name rhymes with magic) signed a record deal after the season ended and has spent much of this year working on his first album, which he expects to be released in early 2013. He says, so far, he’s extremely proud of the work.
“It feels amazing. Number one because I wrote or co-wrote each song on the record,” he explains. “It wasn’t that I was opposed to looking at other songwriters’ songs, but to me it was important to say what I wanted to say.”
He believes he’s done that and says the tricky part now is deciding which songs to “hold back on” and not include on the record.
In the meantime, he’s just released his self-titled EP. In fact, he was invited back to “The X Factor” less than two weeks ago to perform his debut single, “One Thing She’ll Never Know.” He says it’s the first opportunity to show fans – who saw him cover other artists’ songs on the show – what he has to offer as a singer/songwriter. So far, it’s getting positive reviews.
“I tried not to, but I couldn’t help myself to look through some of the comments on iTunes and on YouTube. Everybody seems really excited about it. You always believe in it yourself, but to see others respond to it in the way you imagine is really rewarding.”
Krajcik says he’ll be very busy next year with a major tour, visiting radio stations, and promoting the new album once it’s released. For now though, with 2012 winding down, he wanted to do a few regional shows before the Christmas holiday and he chose Louisville, Cincinnati and his hometown of Columbus.
“I’m excited about the Louisville show,” he says, “because I love the city.”
Krajcik who says he’s played in bars since he was 15 goes on to add, “I’ve played the city before as a guitar player and there are a lot of great music fans in Louisville. And what I really like about doing solo shows is it’s a lot more intimate with the audience. I can interact in a personal way and also I like to keep it loose so we can have fun. I’ll play covers and I’ll play originals and I’m really looking forward to it.”
The show at Headliners Music Hall is set for Wednesday, December 12th at 8:00 pm. Tickets are $14 in advance, $16 day of show.
