Abbey Road on the River is less than a month away! Every week leading up to Abbey Road on the River, Louisville.com will provide you with a reason to attend. If you’ve lived in or around Louisville for the past few years, you’ve probably heard that Abbey Road on the River is the biggest Beatles festival in the nation. It’s a huge honor for our city to host such a festival, but what exactly happens at Abbey Road on the River? What makes it special, and, most importantly, why should you go?

This week’s reason is Laurence Juber. Laurence Juber is a Grammy award-winning guitarist who played with Paul McCartney in Wings from 1979-1981. He’s also worked as a studio guitarist playing for television shows and movies such as Happy Days, Family Ties, and James Bond. Juber has trained as a classical guitarist, and his fingerstyle techniques are impressive. His arrangements of Beatles songs are hauntingly beautiful. I’ve heard many classical tributes to the Beatles – everything from lullabies to relaxation music, but nothing compares to how Laurence Juber’s arrangements make you feel. While listening to and watching him, I felt very tranquil. Until last October at To Sir With Love, I’d never heard him play. When I did, I was taken aback by the splendor of the covers. I was also intrigued with his personal accounts and stories of Paul McCartney. His albums are available on iTunes where you can preview his songs. If you’re a fan of the Beatles even in the slightest, I highly suggest you research Juber, and don’t miss his performances at Abbey Road on the River.
