    Bit to Do

Throughout the weekend, I’ve managed to catch all my favorite Abbey Road on the River bands. Between the Newbees, BritBeat, the Jukebox, Wingsbanned, and so many others, I also managed to catch a new AROTR band – Fabgirls. Hailing from Brazil, Fabgirls is a group of four women who play Beatles music, and this was their first year at Abbey Road on the River.

The Fabgirls are Aline Ali on guitar and vocals, Bruna Neves on guitar and vocals, Juliana Milasseno on bass and vocals and Yara Oliveira on drums and vocals. It is easy to see that these ladies truly love the Beatles and that they’re having so much fun performing. Each and every time I saw Fabgirls, they were smiling and totally enjoying themselves onstage. Even offstage, I saw these band mates dancing and partying several times throughout the festival.

One of my favorite arrangements of theirs was “Maggie Mae.” It’s hard for some bands to get this traditional Liverpool folk song just right, but Fabgirls had perfected it and managed to turn it into a fun crowd favorite. I hope to see Fabgirls back again next year!

Abbey Road on the River wraps up Monday, but there’s still time to catch a few bands on Memorial Day itself! Visit www.arotr.com for more information.
