Take it from me, the malls aren't where you want to be this time of year. Avoid them, and support local businesses by shopping at....

    1. Butchertown Market

Located at 1201 Story Avenue, The Butchertown Market is a great place to pick up your presents: from chocolates at The Cellar Door to pampering products at Moss Hill and lots of furniture and more at Work the Metal.

    2. East Market Street (NuLu)

Much lauded, NuLu does have tons of cute shops like Red Tree and Scout (home goods, among other things) Why Lou Two (lots of Louisville related products!) and The Louisville Beer Store, not to mention the gigantic Joe Ley Antiques.

    3. The Highlands

The Highlands is weird Louisville at its best: stores like Why Louisville (cool Louisville related stuff), The Pink Door (vintage fashion) and about a half million hookah and smoke shops (like Electric Ladyland) have tons of unique products.

    4. Downtown LaGrange

Just about half an hour from downtown Louisville, historic LaGrange has a train track running through main street. There's an adorable toy shop called The Treasured Child, a cute wedding boutique, The Couture Closet, Friends & Fiber, a yarn shop, and so much more.

    5. Downtown New Albany

New Albany is getting super trendy, and downtown New Albany has stores like The Dandy Lion (clothing, art, and Vintage) Billow, (cigars) and Artisan Market

    6. Crescent Hill

Margaret's Consignment (clothes and home goods), The Crescent Hill Trading Company (furniture, antiques, etc.) , Just Creations (Louisville's international fair trade marketplace) and Carmichael's Bookstore are just a few Crescent Hill businesses that deserve your holiday patronage!
