Where to Shop in the Louisville Area (And Avoid the Malls!) [2]

Take it from me, the malls aren't where you want to be this time of year. Avoid them, and support local businesses by shopping at....

1. Butchertown Market [4]

Located at 1201 Story Avenue, The Butchertown Market [5] is a great place to pick up your presents: from chocolates at The Cellar Door [6] to pampering products at Moss Hill [7] and lots of furniture and more at Work the Metal [8].

2. East Market Street (NuLu) [9]

Much lauded, NuLu does have tons of cute shops like Red Tree [10] and Scout [11] (home goods, among other things) Why Lou Two [12] (lots of Louisville related products!) and The Louisville Beer Store [13], not to mention the gigantic Joe Ley Antiques. [14]

3. The Highlands  [15]

The Highlands [16] is weird Louisville at its best: stores like Why Louisville [12] (cool Louisville related stuff), The Pink Door [15] (vintage fashion) and about a half million hookah and smoke shops (like Electric Ladyland [17]) have tons of unique products.

4. Downtown LaGrange  [18]

Just about half an hour from downtown Louisville, historic LaGrange has a train track running through main street. There's an adorable toy shop called The Treasured Child [19], a cute wedding boutique, The Couture Closet [20], Friends & Fiber [21], a yarn shop, and so much more.  [22]

5. Downtown New Albany [23]

New Albany [24] is getting super trendy, and downtown New Albany has stores like The Dandy Lion [25] (clothing, art, and Vintage) Billow [26], (cigars) and Artisan Market [27].

6. Crescent Hill  [28]

Margaret's Consignment [28] (clothes and home goods), The Crescent Hill Trading Company [29] (furniture, antiques, etc.) , Just Creations [30](Louisville's international fair trade marketplace) and Carmichael's Bookstore [31] are just a few Crescent Hill businesses that deserve your holiday patronage!
