Two vegetarian sushi rolls from Dragon King's Daughter

I love sushi. I'm also a vegetarian and a fairly new Louisville resident, so I've found myself facing a conundrum – where do I go do find good vegetarian sushi? Luckily for me – and all of us – I've found the place with the best vegetarian sushi in town – Dragon King's Daughter.

Vegetarian sushi is a dime a dozen nowadays, but as many of you may know exciting vegetarian rolls are not. I can't count the number of times I've gone out for sushi and been woefully underwhelmed at my limited choices – cucumber, avocado, kampyo and any number of combinations of those few ingredients tend to round out the available options. If you want exciting vegetarian rolls then you have to look around, and often look quite hard, but the search is over. Dragon King's Daughter has quite the variety – nine different and actually interesting rolls! I've tried most of them on various visits, and I haven't been disappointed yet.

Pictured above are the Mad Max (top) and the Coco Caliente (bottom), a couple of my favorites. The Mad Max is quite possibly the most amazing piece of sushi (vegetarian or not) that I've ever had. The torched cream cheese goes so well with the asparagus tempura and hot sauce that I'm amazed every time I have one.

I could go on and on about DKD until I'm blue in the face – a good location on Bardstown Road, great staff, and an amazing array of beer and food that isn't just limited to sushi – they specialize in Mexican food as well! If you haven't been there yet, you're doing yourself a disservice. If you're a connoisseur of fine sushi you owe it to yourself to check them out. Even better still if you're a vegetarian or know one who feels the same empty spot in their soul from lack of interesting sushi rolls.
