There are so many apocalypses these days I can't keep them straight. But just in case the end of the world is not indeed this Saturday, you and the family better have some plans. I'd hate for you to be hiding away in the basement with your canned goods while the rest of Louisville enjoys the 80 degree weather. Buy some extra milk, a few cans of giant ravioli for the cupboard, and bet on one of these events to go out in style with.
Pirate Week
: This Friday-Saturday (May 20-22), the Louisville Fencing Club will be celebrating the release of Pirates of the Caribbean 4: On Stranger Tides be throwing a pirate themed party at the Stoneybrook J. Gumbo's. Performers will present authentic "swashbuckling" demonstrations, showcase sword-fighting styles, hang with a Jack Sparrow impersonator, and watch numerous extras that appear in the movie show off their pirate-ness. Families are encouraged to dress the part in their favorite pirate costume and then eat gumbo. Rrrrrrrr, matey.
Mamas and Papas Sing-a-Long at Mama's Hip
: Mama's Hip located at 1559 Bardstown Rd. will host a Mamas and Papas sing-a-long party consisting of songs from the aforementioned band and songs about mamas and papas. In honor of Mother and Father's Days, Heidi Howe and her Wee Rockers will jam out to the tunes, then host a cookie decorating party. The tunes and treats begin at 12:30 this Saturday, May 21 and all ages are welcome.
"Spin-a-Yarn" Storytelling Fest
: The Little Loom House (328 Kenwood Hill Road) will be hosting a storytelling festival this Saturday, May 21 from 11:30-3:30. Talented KY storytellers, weaving demonstrators, historic cabin tours, and bluegrass musicians will round out the event. The first 200 visitors will receive a free t-shirt and free parking is available behind DeSales High School with a complimentary TARC shuttle to the event. General admission is $2.00, children 6 and under are free.
