Winners of Louisville’s Hard Rock Café’s 2012 Battle Royale, local band Vessel has already begun to pilot their way to the forefront of Louisville’s sea of great musicians. I got the fortunate chance to speak to Daniel Botula, one of the front men for Vessel, and tonight he ensures that they will bring all passengers on an unforgettable voyage that most probably won’t want to return from.
For those of you who shamefully don’t know Vessel, you should imagine an eclectic group of seasoned musicians and superb songwriters that have come together with a simple mission: bringing a lot of love and a lot of passion to their music. It really sounds pretty simple but when you get the chance to hear them, you will quickly learn that their arrangements are far from that. Supporting their latest 5 song EP, a proper filming of the show tonight, and looking to finish their first LP, you can expect tonight to only be the beginning of long journey, certainly be more than a 3 hour tour.
Incorporating a full band, horns and keys included, there are remnants of classic ragtime fused with a groove, soul, and a rock sound that Botula likes to quite accurately call ‘Funktified Folk’. I mean if that doesn’t get you going, you’d best just stay home anyway. For those who can dig on it, I’ll see you about 9 under the stars ready to embark on an evening of enchantment.
